# The government has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting and advancing the rights of LGBTQIA-plus people in South Africa. Speaking during a Pride Month webinar, Justice and Constitutional Development deputy minister, Andries Nel, highlighted key legal and judicial victories, including marriage equality, adoption rights and protection against discrimination. Nel also noted progress in finalising regulations under the Hate Crimes and Hate Speech Act. While recognising ongoing challenges, he emphasised the government’s pledge to combat violence, discrimination and exclusion, particularly against LGBTQIA+ youth and other vulnerable communities.
