# Basic Education minister Siviwe Gwarube says the financial difficulties faced by the KwaZulu-Natal Education Department are not unique to the province. The provincial government has revealed that its Education Department is in a dire financial situation and urgently needs about 3.4-billion-rand. The department is the biggest in the country with over two million learners. Gwarube says going forward, the province will pursue a multi-year financial recovery plan:
