# The minister for Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities, Sindisiwe Chikunga, has raised alarm over increasing femicide cases. Citing the 2022 Gender-Based Violence survey, Chikunga says over 7.3-million women have faced physical abuse and nearly 2.1-million have been sexually violated. In addition, the country remains among the highest globally for femicide. The department’s spokesperson, Cassius Selala, says the minister urges men to pledge against gender-based violence, calling it a human rights crisis:
