# The minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, dissolved the council of the National Arts Council of South Africa with immediate effect. The decision follows a prolonged labour dispute over performance bonuses for 2019/20 to 2021/22, which led to a protected strike and financial strain. McKenzie says the council failed to act on directives to resolve the matter and raised concerns over procurement practices. He says the department will now oversee its interim management while a new council is appointed.
