Mayoral sub-committee established to standardise Tshwane’s approach to illegal townships

# Tshwane mayor Nasiphi Moya says a mayoral sub-committee has been established to formulate a standard and fair approach to addressing illegal developments. The metro has identified 17 illegally established townships within its boundaries. Moya says the developments, some established on municipal land or private property, pose a humanitarian and legal threat to the metro’s ability to provide reliable services to residents. She adds that the individuals responsible for these settlements did not follow the legal framework that governs township establishment.
