# Former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela disagrees with parts of the Constitutional Court’s interpretation of the South African Human Rights Commission’s role. Last week, the court ruled the commission’s directives require court enforcement. Madonsela says while she agrees its powers are not legally binding, she argues Chapter 9 institutions must actively prevent impunity, not only promote dialogue. She emphasised these bodies are meant to strengthen accountability and ensure public and private sector responsibility.
