# Protests in Kenya have escalated in Nairobi as today marks the first anniversary of the deadly anti-tax demonstrations which resulted in over 60 deaths. Police have sealed off all access to Parliament as tensions have also intensified following the death of political blogger, Albert Ojwang. He was arrested and killed in police custody after deputy police chief, Eliud Lagat, accused the blogger of allegedly defaming him on social media. Activists have called for a nationwide shutdown demanding justice and an end to police brutality.
