# The City of Johannesburg council has approved the Hostel Revitalisation Unitary Plan, aimed at addressing hostel decay and improving living conditions. The plan also looks to shift away from the model where the government solely funds hostels, and will instead invite developers and funders to partner with the metro to alleviate budget constraints. The metro’s spokesperson, Nthatisi Modingoane, says they will now be able to act swiftly in redeveloping the hostels:
