# The City of Johannesburg’s draft cemeteries and crematoria by-laws have drawn criticism, particularly over cremation hours. The times have been restricted from Monday to Friday only from 9am to 2pm. The by-laws also cover cremations, re-opening of graves and exhumations, care of graves, and memorial sections. The Hindu Co-Ordinating Council says the times infringe upon the Hindu community’s religious traditions. It proposes that the by-laws be amended to allow Hindu cremations until sunset, or 6pm, adding that this is in line with its beliefs and traditions.
