# The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department arrested 166 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol during operations conducted across the city between 27 July and 2 August. The arrests were made during high-visibility patrols, roadblocks and routine enforcement operations. The JMPD’s Xolani Fihla says drunk driving remains a leading cause of serious and fatal crashes. He urges motorists to arrange alternative transport if they intend to consume alcohol:
