# Zambian president Hakainde Hichilema is leading the presidential election count, with 58.87-percent of votes from 135 of 226 constituencies. Electoral authorities say Hichilema has secured more than 1.5-million votes, ahead of his main challenger Brian Mundubile. Hichilema needs more than 50-percent to win outright. The election was largely peaceful, although counting was briefly suspended following violence against election officials and the alleged theft of ballot papers. Final results are expected today.
