Government pledges support to stabilise Emfuleni water and sanitation services

# The Gauteng provincial government reaffirmed its commitment to addressing water and sanitation challenges in Emfuleni Local Municipality. This follows submissions at South African Human Rights Commission hearings highlighting severe infrastructure failures, including aging systems, sewer spillages, intermittent supply, and non-revenue water losses estimated at 70-percent. Spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga says financial strain and debt to Rand Water continue to hinder service delivery. He says a new water utility is expected to take over operations in July as part of long-term reforms.
