# It is president Cyril Ramaphosa’s birthday today and he turns 69. He is expected to celebrate his birthday with his family at the end of a day at work. The president was born in Soweto, Johannesburg, to Venda parents in 1952. The ANC has wished Ramaphosa strength and continued good health. It says the president must continue serving the people of this country with diligence, dedication, and commitment.
# A manufacturer of fruit juices has launched a new initiative, called Grow with Goodness, in partnership with social enterprise, Reel Gardening, with the aim of growing sustainable food gardens for sixty South African schools. A spokesperson for Rhodes Quality, Tamara Patel, says a portion of this summer’s juice sales will be funding the growth of community gardens at schools. She says the added benefit is that learners will also learn about planting and growing produce in an accessible, sustainable, and fun way.
# An Eastern Cape company, DNG Energy, has received South Africa’s first-ever consignment of liquefied natural gas from Rotterdam, Netherlands, in the port in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape. The chief executive officer, Aldworth Mbalati, says this is a historic moment for South Africa‘s energy market. The development is a precursor to the commissioning of the company’s first floating storage unit delivery in the first quarter of 2022. Mbalati called it a key moment in the country’s shift from coal-fired and oil-fired power generation to cleaner alternatives.
# The Western Cape conservation organisation, CapeNature, has taken hands with the award-winning television channel, WildEarth, to host a program, “Penguin Beach”. A spokesperson, Petro van Rhyn, says this real-time broadcasted treat is an expert-hosted live and interactive experience. Viewers can follow regular characters within the Stony Point Reserve near Betty’s Bay and ask the experts of CapeNature and WildEarth questions via Twitter and Chat. Stony Point is home to one of the largest successful breeding colonies of African penguins in the world, with roughly three-thousand-600 African penguins.
# And finally: The Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency says they are proud of the new Brewery and Distiller Route launched in partnership with the provincial Liquor Board. The route kicks off in Gqeberha and meanders through the province. The route seeks to promote the best in local brewery and distillery options with many quirky and quench-worthy stops along the way. It includes stops like Tsitsikamma Micro Brewery in Storms River, Jeffreys Bay Craft Brewery, and Hogsback Beer.
