# The Gauteng government has welcomed Microsoft’s 5.4-billion-rand investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure in South Africa. The investment adds to the 20-billion-rand the tech giant has invested over the past three years. Microsoft aims to train over a million South Africans by next year and employ 50-thousand people to enhance AI skills. Gauteng believes this will boost economic growth and global competitiveness. Despite strained US- South Africa relations, the province believes the investment signals continued foreign confidence in the country’s potential.
