# Gauteng recorded a 5.2-percent decrease in overall community-reported serious crimes in the fourth quarter of 2025/26. Provincial crime statistics released by police show murder and attempted murder cases declined by 15-percent and 3.2-percent, respectively, while carjackings dropped by 17.1-percent. Provincial commissioner Tommy Mthombeni says kidnappings increased slightly. He credits integrated law enforcement operations, including Operation Shanela Two, which led to over 360-thousand arrests and multiple recoveries of firearms, drugs, stolen vehicles, and illicit goods.
