# The Freedom Front Plus in Ekurhuleni says as a result of its sustained pressure, the metro has scrapped the electricity reconnection fee of one-thousand-725-rand. The party says that before the abolition of the reconnection fee, residents were required to pay the money when power cables supplying electricity to their homes were stolen. FF Plus’s Jean Kriek says this effectively penalised residents for the criminal conduct of cable thieves:
