# Kenya’s former prime minister Raila Odinga has died while receiving treatment in Kochi, India. The 80-year-old reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest during a walk and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Odinga contested five presidential elections and lost in all as Kenya’s longest-serving opposition figure. Odinga contributed to multiparty democracy and the implementation of a new constitution in 2010. He spent years in jail and exile under the late President Daniel arap Moi’s autocratic rule. He also contributed to African politics, recently campaigning for the African Union presidency.
