Ethics Committee fines Mashatile R10,000 over undeclared diamond

# Parliament’s Ethics Committee has fined deputy president Paul Mashatile ten-thousand-rand for failing to disclose a diamond gift received by his wife from diamond investment scam businessman Louis Liebenberg, in the confidential section of his financial interests register. The complaint was formally received on 5 March. The committee determined that the valuable item should have been declared. Mashatile has since insisted he declared all required interests to Parliament, denying any hidden holdings.
