The city says scammers are asking for tribal authority letters, personal information and, in some cases, money to secure houses. The city’s Zweli Dlamini says legitimate government housing services do not require payments to middlemen. Dlamini also encouraged the public to report suspected fraud or corruption to the police or the relevant government hotlines.
