EFF raise concerns with NSFAS about alleged irregular payments for student accommodation

# The EFF has written to the acting CEO of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme Waseem Carrim raising urgent concerns about alleged irregular payments made to four student accommodation intermediaries. The party says these companies each charge 5-percent on all transactions facilitated between the scheme and accommodation providers. It says the scheme disbursed 2.9-billion-rand in 2024 to private accommodation partners, meaning that 145-million-rand was siphoned off by these intermediaries for merely processing payments. The EFF says it is demanding accountability for the mismanagement of public funds intended to support students.
