Education activist welcomes new Foundation Phase catalogue [SOUND]

# Education activist Hendrick Makaneta has welcomed the 2026 Foundation Phase Catalogue, particularly its focus on reading and comprehension. The new catalogue provides updated, curriculum-aligned materials, stronger resources for foundational literacy and provision for newer curriculum areas such as Coding and Robotics. Full implementation of the catalogue is projected to cost approximately 1.6-billion-rand. Makaneta says the catalogue provides for 40 readers per class and a Core Reader for every learner, which is a right step towards improving literacy:
