Eastern Cape premier condemns violent student protest at Fort Hare University

# Eastern Cape premier, Oscar Mabuyane, has condemned the violent protest at Fort Hare University’s Alice campus. Students have been protesting since Monday, demanding the holding of SRC elections within this month, and also calling for the vice chancellor, professor Sakhela Buhlungu, to resign. They accuse him of failing to deal with alleged mismanagement at the institution. The administration and student affairs buildings were set on fire on Wednesday, resulting in the management shutting down the institution’s operations. Mabuyane says the damaging of infrastructure cannot be tolerated.
