# The number of confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo has increased to two-thousand-536, including one-thousand-and-33 deaths. The country’s Public Health Institute says in its latest report 50 new cases were detected in the eastern provinces of Ituri and North Kivu on Monday. This makes it the fastest-spreading outbreak to date. The World Health Organization has designated the situation a public health emergency of international concern due to documented cross-border spread into Uganda and global travel risks.
