Department of Correctional Services suffers a sharp deterioration in its financial audit outcome [SOUND]

# The Department of Correctional Services has regressed from an unqualified audit opinion with findings over three consecutive financial years to a disclaimer audit opinion for the 2025/2026 financial year. Fruitless and wasteful expenditure increased from 947-thousand-rand in the 2024/2025 financial year to 12.6-million-rand in 2025/2026. This included 6.4-million-rand from default judgments arising from unattended court cases and six-million-rand in interest on late municipal payments.
