DA Western Cape is concerned by the chronic under-resourcing of SAPS [SOUND]

# The DA in the Western Cape has expressed concern at the findings by the provincial Department of Police Oversight and Community Safety. According to the department, as of March 2024, the province had one-thousand-757 vacant SAPS posts, contributing to a police-to-population ratio of just one officer for every 435 residents. The DA’s Benedicta van Minnen says the shortage of detectives is particularly alarming, as the allocated number of detectives stood at three-thousand-606 by August 2025, yet only two-thousand-815 posts were filled:
