# The DA in Tshwane has welcomed the investigation into a suspected meter-tampering syndicate. Two residents described to News24 almost identical approaches from a woman calling herself “Petunia”, who allegedly demanded 12-thousand-rand to make their 73-thousand-rand electricity tampering penalties disappear. The DA’s Jacqui Uys says they warned the metro five months ago, after residents approached party’s ward councillors with disturbing reports of electricity meters being removed and residents subsequently being subjected to extraordinarily high penalties:
