DA slams R77-million Baragwanath Hospital security bill as CEO hires private guards

# The DA in Gauteng says Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital’s security costs have soared to 77-million-rand a year, a sharp increase from 22-million-rand a decade ago. The hospital’s CEO, Nthabiseng Makgana, is reportedly paying for extra personal security, despite a 232-million-rand contract with a private company employing 275 staff, many of whom are paid around 6-thousand-rand per month. The company is paid around 23-thousand-rand per staff member. The DA’s Jack Bloom calls for an urgent review of the rising security costs, arguing the money should be redirected to improving patient care.
