# The DA in the Eastern Cape says it has consistently warned that the provincial scholar transport programme is on the brink of systemic failure. Thousands of pupils who rely on scholar transport missed the first day of the final term on Monday, after taxi operators withdrew the service because the provincial government still owed them money. The DA’s Horatio Hendricks says the Department of Transport’s inability to pay operators, ensure vehicles are roadworthy, and manage learner verification processes has triggered an entirely preventable crisis.
