# SECTION27 and the Cancer Alliance have welcomed the Gauteng High Court’s urgent ruling to protect cancer patients’ right to healthcare. The court has ruled that the Gauteng Department of Health has to abide by provisions of a previous order on radiation oncology services for cancer patients, pending the outcome of its appeal. Cancer Alliance’s Salomé Meyer says that in March, the court found that the department’s failure to develop and implement a plan to address the oncology backlog was unlawful:
