# Cosatu has welcomed Human Settlements minister Thembi Simelane’s assurances that individuals flouting regulations of the New Housing Proection Act promulgated in January, would face more stringent sanctions and penalties. Simelane released the National Home Builders Registration Council’s report into the George building collapse that claimed 34 lives and left 28 injured in May 2024. Cosatu’s spokesperson, Zanele Sabela says health and safety requirements as stipulated by the National Building Regulation were also flouted:
