# Union federation COSATU says it commends the South African Municipal Workers’ Union for standing firm for workers in the Msunduzi Local Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal and Kannaland Local Municipality in the Western Cape. The union pushed back against exploitative practices of retaining personnel in contracts for years and the non-payment of outstanding overtime. COSATU’s spokesperson, Nonzuzo Dlamini, says the unethical behaviour of municipalities refusing to pay what is due to their staff should not be tolerated under any circumstances:
