Concern over low number of students pursuing mathematics and science

# Minister of Science and Innovation Blade Nzimande has expressed concern over the low number of students pursuing mathematics and science. He criticised educators who enroll students in math literacy to protect pass rates. Speaking at the Basic Education Sector Lekgotla in Boksburg, he highlighted the need to overcome the fear of these subjects, particularly in black communities. Nzimande urged principals to stop prioritising pass rates at the expense of students’ long-term skills, stressing the harm this approach causes to South Africa’s future.
