# City Power says it is concerned by the surge in service cable theft across Johannesburg, with the Observatory area being particularly hard hit this week. The service cable links homes and businesses to City Power infrastructure, which criminals have begun targeting. City Power’s spokesperson, Isaac Mangena, says this cable is vital as it delivers electricity from the grid directly into the property, and without it, homes are effectively disconnected from the power network:
