# The City of Johannesburg is renewing its smart city plans after setbacks due to fragmented initiatives, outdated ICT systems, and governance issues. In its 2025/26 draft Integrated Development Plan, the city outlined a fresh strategy focusing on digital infrastructure, service delivery, and economic growth. With 300-million-rand budgeted, key goals include 100-percent digitisation of services by 2026, expanded WiFi in underserved areas, smart meter rollouts, and improved data governance.
