City of Johannesburg demanded to return traders’ storage containers

# The Socio-Economic Rights Institute of South Africa has sent a letter of demand to the City of Johannesburg over the removal of traders’ storage containers at Kopanong Market in Ivory Park. The traders say the removals have disrupted their livelihoods, forcing them to store goods elsewhere or push trolleys long distances. SERI, representing 140 traders, is demanding that the metro return the containers and consult traders before any changes. The metro says the removals were due to safety concerns linked to criminal activity.
