# The City of Cape Town Water and Sanitation Directorate says it is providing grant funding to community-based organisations. This is part of its effort to build meaningful partnerships in communities. The Ummati Community Upliftment Project is one of the metro’s grant recipients working to improve the quality of waterways in communities across Cape Town. Mayoral committee member for Water and Sanitation, Zahid Badroodien, says they cannot tackle the vast challenges in the water and sanitation sector alone:
