# Chief Mkhutjhwa Mabhena of the Manala Traditional Council in Mpumalanga has been announced as the successor to the late King Makhosonke of the amaNdebele nation. The succession follows the King’s death in June at the age of 65 after a 40-year reign. Traditional leaders say the appointment will ensure continuity in the leadership of the amaNdebele Kingdom. King Makhosonke was widely recognised for promoting cultural heritage, education and rural development during his four decades on the throne.
