# The City of Cape Town will provide 200 additional beds to eleven selected shelters as part of its winter preparedness programme. Shelters will also receive food parcels, toiletries, mattresses, and bedding. U-turn Homeless Ministries has highlighted the severe challenges shelters face during winter and stressed the need for year-round public support and political will. The organisation’s Stephen Underwood of Cape Town has over 14-thousand homeless people but only three-thousand beds, creating a significant gap, especially in winter.
