Cape Town reopens public comment on tariff amendments to its 2026/2027 budget [SOUND]

# The City of Cape Town has opened supplementary public participation on amendments to its 2026/2027 budget. This follows a Western Cape High Court ruling, which declared the metro’s property value-based fixed charges for cleaning levy and water and sanitation unlawful. A key effect of the judgment is that Cape Town must revert to using water meter size, rather than property value bands, to determine fixed water and sanitation charges. Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis says public comments will close on June 10th:
