Cape Town mayor tables Invested in Hope budget

# Cape Town mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis will table the City’s 2025/26 ‘Invested in Hope’ budget today, featuring a record 39.7-billion-rand infrastructure investment. According to Hill-Lewis, the budget prioritizes lower-income households with tariff relief, reduced electricity increases, and a new water and sanitation charge structure. Over 500 new metro police officers will be deployed, while property rates remain the lowest among metros. Waste services funding will also be adjusted for sustainability. The mayor says the budget aims to make Cape Town a “City of Hope.”
