Cape Town mayor is calling for the proper resourcing of SAPS [SOUND]

# Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has expressed concern at the significant decline in the number of South African Police Service officers on the streets of the metro. SAPS have seven-thousand-355 active duty officers in Cape Town this year. This is a 15-percent decline compared to the estimated eight-thousand-665 active officers in 2021, based on the police-to-population ratio at the time. Hill-Lewis says in response to a declining SAPS, he has directed billions of ratepayers’ money towards safety and security interventions:
