Cabinet prioritises foundation learning as nearly 80% of children struggle to read [SOUND]

# Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, says cabinet supports the strategic reorientation of the Basic Education sector towards foundation learning. This follows recent studies revealing that nearly 80-percent of children cannot read for meaning by the age of ten. Ntshavheni told the media that new plans to address the issue include providing all children with access to quality early childhood education, supporting teachers, and offering scholarships to those who wish to teach young learners:
