Booysens Small Claims Court launched to expand justice access

# Deputy Justice minister Andries Nel has launched the Booysens Small Claims Court, the 417th of its kind in South Africa. Speaking at the Booysens Magistrate’s Court, Nel highlighted the courts’ role in bridging justice gaps for those unable to afford legal representation. Nel said that these courts handle disputes up to 20-thousand-rand with discussions underway to expand this to 50-thousand-rand In the first quarter of 2025/26. He confirmed that over eight-thousand-500 new claims worth nearly 58-million-rand were registered nationwide.
