# KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Thulasizwe Buthelezi, has urged residents to remain vigilant as winter fires in informal settlements are on the rise. This follows a blaze at the Dakota informal settlement in Isipingo, where over 100 structures were destroyed and more than 200 people displaced. The department’s Senzelwe Mzila says the fire is believed to have been caused by a brazier used to keep warm:
