# AfriForum says the Gauteng Department of Education is wrongly blaming schools for the province’s municipal debt crisis. The civil rights organisation says the department is ignoring its own role in unpaid municipal accounts, including a reported 583-million-rand debt, as well as delayed transfers to schools. AfriForum’s Alana Bailey warns plans to review decentralised school management could undermine well-run schools and worsen the situation instead of fixing administrative problems:
