# AfriForum recently hosted a wildfire fighting training in the Wes-Moot in Pretoria, where almost 50 volunteers gained the necessary knowledge and skills to support their communities in times of need. The training consisted of theory and practical sessions, during which volunteers tested their new skills on more than five hectares of deliberately controlled fires. AfriForum says the challenges with wildfires are not only that they pose a threat to the environment, but also to the lives and livelihoods of communities. It adds that this type of training saves lives.
