# The Conference of the Left has called for sweeping economic reforms, including the nationalisation of the South African Reserve Bank and a fundamental review of its mandate, ownership, and governance. Over 300 delegates from political parties, civil society organisations, and youth and women formations attended the conference in Boksburg on the East Rand of Gauteng over the weekend. South African Communist Party general secretary, Solly Mapaila, says they strongly condemned outsourcing and labour brokering, which are instruments of capitalist class power:
# The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry is set to resume hearings with KwaZulu-Natal Hawks head Major General Lesetja Senona expected to continue his testimony. Senona has been under scrutiny over allegations linked to organised crime figures, internal police conduct and the theft of cocaine from a Hawks facility in Port Shepstone. His return follows a postponement after new allegations emerged during testimony by Hawks Major General Hendrik Flynn. The commission is investigating claims of corruption, criminality and political interference within the criminal justice system.
# The National Prosecuting Authority has confirmed that an urgent court application brought to stop the execution of arrest warrants in the case involving extortion-accused taxi boss, Madoda Johannes Sibanyoni, and his co-accused has been formally withdrawn. Prosecutors had obtained a J50 warrant of arrest after re-enrolling the case that had been struck off the roll by the Kwaggafontein Magistrate’s Court last month. NPA spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago told Newzroom Afrika that the extortion case can now proceed:
# US president Donald Trump has reportedly requested several changes to be made to the proposed US-Iran peace deal. According to reports, the changes relate to tougher language surrounding Iran’s nuclear commitments and its pledge to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. This comes a week after Trump declared the deal was largely finalised. Iran’s chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, says no agreement with the US would be approved until Tehran is certain that the rights of the Iranian people have been secured.
# Cricket: The Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated the Gujarat Titans by five wickets in Ahmedabad, to become only the third team in history to defend the Indian Premier League title. Despite Washington Sundar’s unbeaten 50, Gujarat were restricted to 155 for eight. In reply, Virat Kohli struck an unbeaten 75 off 42 balls and shared a crucial partnership of 62 with Venkatesh Iyer, as RCB reached the target with 12 balls to spare. Kohli says they were the best team in the competition:
