The commission, chaired by retired Constitutional Court Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, was established in July 2025 to investigate corruption and interference within the criminal justice system. Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya says the president will study the report and expects any suspected criminal conduct identified by the commission to be referred for prosecution:
# The ANC Women’s League Special National Executive Committee is holding an urgent meeting in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng, today on its leadership future. The meeting comes after the departure of its former president Sisisi Tolashe, who resigned from her positions as ANC Member of Parliament and league president following mounting allegations including diverting vehicles donated for official ANC Women’s League activities for the benefit of family members and associates. Delegates are expected to address the leadership vacuum and chart a path forward for the organisation ahead of key electoral contests.
# KwaZulu-Natal police have arrested a national office bearer of the All Truck Drivers Forum South Africa for allegedly inciting violence along the N3 southbound near Bergville. Police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says officers found a group stopping trucks before the suspects fled into nearby bushes, abandoning a vehicle containing an ATDF-SA banner and stones. He confirmed that three suspects, including two truck drivers, were arrested while police believe the owner of the vehicle may also be linked to the stoning of a bus near the Colenso interchange:
# South Africa has gone 376 consecutive days without load-shedding and expects no power cuts during the winter period. Eskom confirmed that plant performance and reliability continuing to improve as the power system remains stable amid winter demand increases. The utility reports an Energy Availability Factor of 62.59-percent, up from 57.43-percent a year ago, while unplanned outages have declined significantly. Eskom has also restored continuous electricity supply to more than 651-thousand households previously affected by load-reduction.
# The South African Bureau of Standards has accepted findings of a forensic investigation confirming serious governance, procurement and labour irregularities flagged by whistleblowers in 2024. The probe uncovered evidence of irregular expenditure, undeclared conflicts of interest, flawed recruitment processes and procurement breaches. SABS board chairperson, Mzubanzi Bismark Tyobeka, says interventions including disciplinary proceedings, are underway. Acting CEO Blake Mosley-Lefatola says the organisation is committed to restoring accountability and stability following years of operational challenges and internal conflict.
# And cricket: Royal Challengers Bengaluru will face Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2026 final tomorrow at the Narendra Modi Stadium. RCB secured their spot by dominating the Titans by 92 runs in Qualifier 1, fueled by Rajat Patidar’s explosive 93. Gujarat rebounded in Qualifier 2, chasing down 215 against Rajasthan Royals thanks to a masterclass century from captain Shubman Gill. Rajasthan had previously eliminated Hyderabad. Defending champions RCB now aim for back-to-back titles, while Gujarat fights to reclaim the crown.
