# Parliament’s ad hoc committee investigating police corruption has made adverse findings against Police minister Senzo Mchunu, who is currently on special leave. The report found Mchunu issued a directive to disband the political killings task team without proper consultation and sent the instruction to a junior official instead of the national police commissioner. It further suggests the task team’s work in exposing an alleged criminal syndicate within law enforcement may have influenced the decision. The final report will be submitted to the National Assembly next month.
# ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula says veterans in the party are expected to play a key role in guiding the future direction of the movement. He made the remarks during the party’s veterans league national executive committee meeting in Sandton, Gauteng. Mbalula described the veterans as an important source of experience and wisdom that will help strengthen the party ahead of the local government elections:

Stats SA’s Onica Mushwana says over the three months to April, liquidations were up by 8.8-percent, while the first four months of this year saw a 3.7-percent increase compared to the same period last year, indicating continued pressure on businesses:
# The Parliament of South Africa will host the 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in Cape Town in September 2026. Organised by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, the event will bring together Members of Parliament, officials of Parliament and delegates from across the Commonwealth. Parliament says the conference presents an important opportunity for South Africa to showcase its democratic institutions, strengthen international parliamentary cooperation and highlight the country’s achievements and ongoing challenges on the global stage.
And rugby: Thanks to a late try in extra time, the Blitzboks manage to beat Britain 17-12 in their first match at the Valladolid Sevens World Championship in Spain yesterday. The match ended 12-all in regulation time, before Tristan Leyds scored the winning try in extra time. In their other match against Kenya, South Africa had an easy 14-0 win after leading 7-0 at half time. This afternoon the Blitzboks take on Australia in their final group match in Pool A, before the quarterfinals.
