# Parliament’s portfolio committee on Health has criticised the Interim Traditional Health Practitioners Council for failing to fully implement the Traditional Health Practitioners Act nearly two decades after it was passed. Committee chairperson Faith Muthambi says the absence of regulations, enforcement systems and a national practitioner register continues to expose communities to unsafe practices. Committee members also questioned the Council’s limited budget and lack of progress in integrating traditional medicine into broader healthcare reforms, including the National Health Insurance.
